Took the hubs shopping for his birthday yesterday, and was weirded out by the extreme solicitousness of every single clerk and salesperson we encountered. It was eerie, and somewhat off-putting.

Then we had lunch, and the waiter was this way, too. Finally, I couldn't stand it anymore...I knew the only way to repel all this over-friendliness was to turn it back on them. So I told the waiter, completely sans sarcasm, "You're the best waiter...ever!" and sure enough, he avoided eye contact and conversation w/us for the rest of the meal.

While on the same shopping trip, I heard the Go-betweens at the Gap(!), and a mysterious song in another store that appealed to me. I asked the sales gal what song it was, which started this long process of inter-clerk communication. About ten minutes later, they determined it was a song called, they thought, "Sway," but no one knew who it was by.

So I went and looked up all recent songs called "Sway" by female artists, and none of them sounded the same...it's not Vanessa Carlton (thank god)...the song was kinda trippy (though not trip-hop) and the vocals were reminiscent of Jane Siberry.

Anyone?

Watched the straight-to-DVD Run, Ronnie, Run by the Mr. Show folks. I'd heard that Bob Odenkirk was really upset with how it turned out, and it wasn't great, but it was consistently funny and definitely worth a rental. The music-video-within-the-movie is in itself a laff riot, and the scene where Ronnie Dobbs joins a self-help group is priceless. Good cameos, too.
