What do you think of the new White Stripes CD?

I haven't payed close attention to their recordings to date...my affection for them is based more on a vivid sense of approving of their whole deal (and also having seen an excellent live show way back in 2001) so I have little context for this one.

But I like what I hear, especially the bluesy melodrama of "Take Take Take" and the cute 30-second Meg White turn "Passive Manipulation." "The Nurse," vaguely reminiscent of "Spanish Harlem," is purty.

And then there's The Fame. One might assume that a band named this badly--and baldly--might just suck, but their e.p. is exciting, classic power-pop.

It starts with that most important of all lyrics: "whoa!" and the fun never stops. Really good stuff--fans of the Raspberries and Badfinger and Cheap Trick and their respective imitators should enjoy this.
