Part of my job involves seeking out New Age music that isn't totally awful. This requires blurring the genre lines a bit, as bands like Tarentel, Explosions in the Sky, and the Album Leaf explore ambience in a way that's both relaxing and not entirely unmusical.

My two latest personal discoveries along these lines is the electronica fellow Boom Bip and British film composer Anne Dudley. If you've been to the movies fairly regularly since the 80s, you've heard Anne Dudley's impressive film scores. The collection I've been listening to has some of her, uh, "hits," including a tear-inducing "Pie Jesu."

This is too weird. That old PBS hoax is now a reality.
