Have learned some fascinating things about Satie, Debussy, Brian Eno, and their followers by reading The Ambient Century. It's a well-researched and enthusiastic (if not always stunningly written) book that's opening up a whole new can of musical worms for me. Did you know that Satie owned twelve identical velvet suits and, on many of his compositions, eschewed time signatures and directions for more abstract suggestions like "be clairvoyant."
