Thanks to everyone who came out last night! What a fun show--I loved Brother Minstrel. They do a killer version of "Orphan Girl."

It's a gorgeous day here in Brooklyn, with a hint of autumn in the air. I am reading Michael Cunningham's new book despite some pretty negative reviews. (Can you imagine being told by the NY Times Book Review that something you wrote is "a very bad book"?)

I am enjoying it, even though I agree with some aspects of those reviews. The writing here isn't as dead-on emotionally resonant as it was in his previous two novels, and his mannered way of writing can get a little annoying, but I really like what he's trying to do overall, and have decided to give him the benefit of the doubt (you're welcome, Michael).

Let's hope this book boosts Walt Whitman's career like The Hours did for Virginny Woolf!
