2005-07-09 - 9:08 a.m. Thanks to everyone who came out last night! What a fun show--I loved Brother Minstrel. They do a killer version of "Orphan Girl." It's a gorgeous day here in Brooklyn, with a hint of autumn in the air. I am reading Michael Cunningham's new book despite some pretty negative reviews. (Can you imagine being told by the NY Times Book Review that something you wrote is "a very bad book"?) I am enjoying it, even though I agree with some aspects of those reviews. The writing here isn't as dead-on emotionally resonant as it was in his previous two novels, and his mannered way of writing can get a little annoying, but I really like what he's trying to do overall, and have decided to give him the benefit of the doubt (you're welcome, Michael).
