While browsing at the Newport Historical Society gift shop, I came across a book that was so entertaining and short, I read most of it while standing there with a sunburn. It was George Washington's Rules of Civility & Decent Behavior in Company & Conversation. The title is almost half the book. Some gems include:

  • Do not Puff up the Cheeks, Loll not out the tongue rub the Hands, or beard, thrust out the lips, or bite them or keep the Lips too open or too Closed.

  • When in Company, put not your Hands to any Part of the Body, not usualy Discovered.

  • Shew Nothing to your Freind that may affright him.

    You can read more here.

RIP Bob Denver...although best known as Li'l Buddy, I loved him best as Maynard G. Krebs. And Dusty was not a role to sneeze at, either!
