For some unfathomable reason, I picked up this book from the library the other day (I dislike history books) (unless they're about, say, the history of some regrettable era of pop music) and ended up really enjoying it.

Its premise: in 1933, FDR = Mussolini = Hitler.

Kind of like, in 1977, Buzzcocks = Sex Pistols = Vic Goddard & the Subway Sect, and no one was the wiser.

I should add, though, that the author himself doesn't equate these three, he's observing that in FDR's heyday, popular opinion--abroad but also sometimes here in the states--did not understand the differences between the three.
