I can't say enough good things about the new live-action Charlotte's Web. It's lovely to look at--the web-spinning scenes are dazzling and the overall art direction is quaint and Garth Williams-y enough to satisfy fans of the book.

The acting is nice and low-key--Dakota Fanning is just right as Fern. (Let's hope she blossoms into a Jodi Foster and not a Lindsay Lohan).

But mostly, it's just a beautiful story about friendship, loyalty, life cycles, appreciating the miraculous in the everyday.

If I were a grad student I might push for some Wilbur = Jesus parallels, but I don't have the energy.

Anyway, if ya need a good cry, this here's your movie. That'll do, pig.
