The new 5-song adjunct of Of Montreal's latest album is wonderful--all 5 songs as good as anything from the excellent Hissing Fauna....

Kevin Barnes seems to have arrived at that dazzling place in his songwriting where comparisons to other performers (Elephant 6 or otherwise) is no longer so easy. That's a cool place to be.

I'm also really enjoying:

  • The new Mice Parade album (That first song kills me).

  • The new Wooden Stars album. Apparently this Canadian band has been around for 15 years, but this is the first I'd heard of their pleasing and sometimes challenging music.

  • Looks like all the Union Carbide Productions albums are being reissued. UCP were, to oversimplify, a Swedish Stooges, and they reigned in the late '80s/early '90s. Their third album is great.
