I've been hesitantly stepping my toes back in the outdoor live music waters lately, starting with the RT show at Prospect Park last week, and then last night at South Street Seaport, where I saw Ra Ra Riot.

My longstanding bugbear with outdoor shows is the lost sense of intimacy that a club provides, at least for artier acts like the ones last night. Highly danceable or family-of-man populist fare can work, but not the Pavement-esque stuff.

The band was playing their collective heart out, and they were pretty good. Sadly, it seems that they've had a recent tragedy) .
