2008-02-09 - 1:52 p.m. I finally checked out the New Museum yesterday. I agree with Ms. Huxtable that the design of the building is pleasing... ...but I wasn't bowled over by the "Unmonumental" exhibit, basically lots of ho-hum, bulky sculptural assemblages and collages. (No photos of these--they wouldna lemme!) I did, however, really like the work of Nancy Spero, a new discovery for me, so it was a fruitful visit. After that, I saw The Savages, a small, sad, likable wisp of a movie. I guess this is the weekend of underwhelming art. Have a good one! thoughts?
