Be Kind Rewind is a charming and soulful film, and quite funny. Anyone who has ever lived in a tight-knit urban neighborhood with a beloved (and threatened by extinction) local hangout will get its emotional tenor.

I don't expect everything that Gondry does to be amazing--he's already given the world one insightful masterpiece, and that's enough, and, accordingly, this falls more into the category of a quiet, heartwarming entertainment. But I loved it.

It seems fitting that my movie companions and I went to Fred's afterward.
