Note to the warlocks and witches: Don't forget to enter Llewellyn's Samhain Contest!

A recent study suggests (among other things) that behavioral flexibility in primates is linked to inhibition, and whether that particular skill is honed depends more on one's social environment than one's intelligence. I call this study The Revenge of the Spider Monkey, or The Gorilla's Comeuppance

I am reading Juliana Hatfield's memoirs! I will let you know how it goes.

Today's Yoga Moment, brought to you by IHoP:

People ask me all the time "Paula, woof woof woof woof woof woof woof?"

No, wait, that's what dogs ask me.

People ask me: "Are there any good yoga videos?"

And my answer is "No."

The worst, most boring yoga class is better for you than all the Rodney Yees and Ali McGraws in the world, especially for a beginner. You need a teacher, you need the surprise and surrender of a real group of people. You need to get out of your house and into a different environment.

That said, if you really are stuck, and need to practice with a video, the one I recommend is this 'un. Despite the title, it is not really about weight loss at all. It is a very thorough and flexible program for beginners that takes you through about three different levels of practice. It's good in a pinch. The teacher is cool.

All the other videos? One is about as good as the next. Rodney Yee, Seane Corn, Nicki Doane (for ashtanga), Shiva Rea--theyre all great teachers but a video is a video is a video. Godspeed!
