2008-10-07 - 10:46 a.m. I am reading a bad mystery/thriller that was given to me as a gift ("good sport" reading, thus no guilt*) and I'm only up to page 20, and already two different characters have "[given] a low whistle." (* NYPL blogs!) I ask you, who "gives a low whistle" in real life to denote surprise or judgment? And even if people did do that, shouldn't this author's editor have suggested that you can't use that expression twice within 20 pages? Hrmph!
