There did seem to be this lesbian subtext...but I thought that was more about girls being mysterious and affectionate with each other (an extension of their narcissism) rather than outright being hot for each other.

I'm not kidding. Godard added so many things to the mix I'm pretty sure the lesbian undertones (THAT'D be a great band, eh?) were intentional and not about being mysterious or narcisstic. That one girl definitely resented Paul's presence and more than once shot a look of pure lust at Madeleine.
