I hate those Axe ads, with the white-hot fury of a cat on a leash. And I have some clue to what they're supposed to signify, because I remember the horrible Axe television commercials from last year, where a dorky male Axe user is repeatedly molested by gorgeous women in an elevator. This is because Axe lends the user an irresistible sexual magetism. The subway ads attempt to to convey this message as well (springs on the couch legs, a supply of water cups by the bed), but in the most obscure, confusing manner possible. Worst subway ad campaign ever, displacing previous champ Captain Morgan Rum's "Get Spicey(sic)!, Coming Alive After Five" campaign from a few years back.

A-ha. I get it now. Yuck.
Captain Morgan Rum's "Get Spicey(sic)!, Coming Alive After Five"
Oh, that is my all-time favorite!! It was a stunning achievement in cheesiness--awful artwork, offensive racial stereotypes, multiple taglines ("we couldn't choose just one, so here are three!")--the likes of which I've not seen since.

There was another Captain Morgan series a few years later: "The Captain was here." It seemed to be set in a crack den. People were lounging sleepily about wearing various articles of the Captain's clothing - a woman had on his pirate hat, another had on his big boots - as if he'd dropped by, stripped off his clothes, got everyone drunk, instigated an orgy, and left.

P! I cannot believe you didn't get those AXE ads. What about the one with the refridg full of whipped cream! (Look at the stove in that one. How is one expexted to use it!) Crummy ads I say. I best start using that stuff quick.

The romantic comedy/horror film is indeed a small slice of the genre pie; the only other one that comes to mind is Peter Jackson's "Dead Alive"; also a zombie opus, by some strange coincidence.

The funniest thing about the Axe ads is, as bad as they are, they have to be the only thing selling that stuff, cuz it reeks worse than the ads. (Not that I've tried it;; a teenage friend at a skatepark, who was liberally trying to cover up skatepad funk on his arms, sprayed some in my direction once, when he was asked what stunk.)

I shall become an international mogul by selling my unique line of everything, all advertised exactly the same: "Stuff [that's the brand]. Because you're gullible and insecure, and we're greedy and manipulative." People will think they see through it!

The pancreas. Er, knees?
