I can't see Morrisey inspiring a hundred pages, but I do have to give him credit for getting the New York Dolls (well, the three who were still alive) together for a show and live album in London last year. Especially since one of those surviving three died months later. I found it at the library and wasn't expecting much, and it starts off with their slower songs, and I was thinking "wise choice, they seem able to manage to do these ones good still", but when it got to their peppier ones they tore those right up, and it's actually a great album. Maybe the best live album of the punk era, even though it was done in 2004 and presented by Morrisey. And SUCH a better live performance than the Toads (who I actually like otherwise) in their supposed prime in "Gimme Shelter". (You said that was a good documentary, Paula, so I got that at the library too... and was appalled at how Mick was murdering his own songs and what godawful geeks they were, with the "yeah whatever" exception of Keith. Compare it to "Nights of Cabiria" from twelve years earlier and you really do get a sense that the British Invasion killed Rock n' Roll. [Not that there was any of that aside from bobby socks in "Cabiria", but it's a must-see.]) Anyhow, that's my tangent on Morrisey.

Can I do 33 each on London Calling, Ziggy Stardust, and Doolittle?

...and a third.
I think London Calling is coming out soon, if it's not out already.

I think it would have to be the Beatles "white album" I was in the 6th grade, having grown up from the age of 7 following their progression, from pop to a new idea of pop, the white album was so stlyistically varied, and emotionally diverse, it's the only record I could imagine going on for anything like that long about.

i know, you're all done, but i've been too busy to read weblogs. how can it be the dolls with no thunders? i don't get that. despite my very deep feelings for the white album, ziggy, london, bollocks (let's throw fugazi's repeater in there, too) i'd havta go with something that not everyone else would wanna write about. like side 2 of the vapors' "new clear days" and "magnets" (the side 1s don't hold up as well), the first translator album, or "monk's music." i dunno that i could get a hunnert pages out of any of 'em though.

Secret Treaties, of course! Or maybe Plants & Birds & Rocks & Things...

dumbw, it actually occurred to me when hearing that live 'undead-Dolls' album that I shouldn't be so surprised at how good their performance was, since there wasn't a burnt-out old Thunders to drag it down. (No disrespect to his young ability.) Though to look at 'em, you'd never guess the others could have pulled it off.

PBRT is a great choice. In fact, someone needs to get on that, ASAP. My choice would be Argy Bargy or the first Pretenders album.
