I haven't read the McEwan yet - but I'm curious what you think. I just read what seems, from the passages it quotes, like an oddly misguided review of the book in Harper's. I get the feeling that the reviewer has confused a shortcoming of the main character with a shortcoming of the book... Anyway, if you get the chance to read the review after you've read the book, I'd be curious what you think. (I doubt I'll be able to get to the book for a while...)
