'Sideways' was the victim of its' own over-hype; it's a good film, even a very good one, just not quite the revelation that some critics were making it out to be. I think last year at the movies, with its' emphasis on either timely political documentaries or big-budget fluff (although arguably 'The Incredibles' ws the best film of 2004) was just what some critics were looking for when it premiered; a small drama with some very good performances.

Tom, you hit the nail on the head. THE INCREDIBLES was the most moving movie I saw last year. It perfectly evoked the emotions of being in a family. Oh, and it looked amazing.

I third the Incredibles--my favorite film of 2004. And I think it's a shame that Sideways was, as you point out, Tom, kinda cursed by its own initial praise. No one can live up to that much hype. It's just a good solid, movie, and the kind of subtle character study that you can watch a few times and get something different from each time.

Nah, I'm sorry Paula. I have to pick Sideways again. Maybe it's because I saw it opening weekend, so I didn't hear any hype, which might actually be the way to go. But, at least you liked it better, otherwise I might have lost faith in you. Incredibles was really good, and it did look great, but it kind of stopped in the middle there for a while, before picking up again.
