It's interesting that the thing that she made for them, the mittens, is the locus one might say, or the accumulator of all their shame and guilt. Of course, it may be seen as the nessasary imposition of super-ego on their uncontrolled ids. Or maybe they are just bad cats.

What I find most troubling is how their mother wants them to wear these very impractical garments in the first place. I'd think that fingerless leather gloves would be much more practical for a predator with claws.
