I saw "What the Bleep . . . ?" and, quite honestly, thought 'what the bleep' regarding it. I'm not unsympathetic to what it's trying to present; I just thought it was heavy-handed, amateurish and, at times, just plain bad filmmaking. Especially in contrast to Richard Linklater's earlier animated effort, "Waking Life"; a film remarkably similar in both form and function to "What the Bleep . . . ?", but much better crafted and subtle in its conception and execution. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't seen it.

I've always hated the title of that movie. Partly, because I've always hated "bleep" and similar symptoms of dumb censorship - but more because "What the Fuck Do We Know?" would be an equally stupid title. From what I gather, the tone of the film isn't frustrated annoyance, or even bemused annoyance - the two most likely tones called up by that phrase (in either its edited or family-friendly varieties). Oh - and amusingly, the link brings up a page whose title is "Self Aware Universe: How Consciousness Creates the Material World 15% Off." I'm pleased that spiritual seekers have now determined, to a specific degree, exactly how far from reality the world created by our consciousness is. Or perhaps the idea is that our consciousness creates a bargain-basement, discount-store world. I'm off to work on creating a high-end, high-quality material world! See ya later!
