I'm not quite sure if this is the TV program you're referring to, but Shelley Duvall hosted and co-produced a show called "Fairie Tale Theater" http://imdb.com/title/tt0199214/ that aired on one of the premium cable channels (HBO? Cinemax?) in the early 80's. They featured a different cast every time, and were frequently funny and mildly risque. They were also one of the first TV programs to be released on home video, which is how I caught a couple of them (Klaus Kinski as 'the Beast' in an adaptation of "Beauty and the Beast" comes to mind).

Ah, that was a good show, too! Thanks. But that's not it. This one was def. low-budget and on in the '70s on regular ol' TV.

Remember that strange Magic Garden show? They'd be sitting on the swing on that tree, singing tunes and stuff.

I remember one of the Magic Garden ladies was named Paula. The other show has me stumped. The only thing I could find was "Storybook Squares", a kids' version of Hollywood Squares, where the regulars dressed up as fairy tale and nursery rhyme characters.

Yes, my mom used that Magic Garden lady as an example of someone named Paula when I was convinced that she had made it up....And I, too, found "Storybook Squares" in my search, which was another wave of nostalgia...

Yes. It was called storybook theater. I think Paul Sand did one or two epidsodes. Paul Sills, the son of improv matriarch Viola Spolin, originated the idea. He teaches in NYC.

Thank you!! Story Theatre! I was spelling it wrong....and I guess Judy Graubert from Electric Co. wasn't involved after all.
