I'm too lazy to read the reviews, so let me guess what really happens: his ad says Must Love Dogs, and she is allergic and/or fearful of dogs, so she has to pretend to like them? And hilarity ensues? It sounds like Frasier!

Something like that. Basically, the fertile story-telling culture of dog parks and dog-lovers is totally forsaken.

Must... avoid... making... obvious... obscene tasteless joke... help me, Lord...

Paula - 2005-07-29 15:17:46
Uh-oh. I must be getting lame, cuz I don't see the obvious joke.

There is a movie out there on DVD called 'Dog Park', about a group of friends/lovers and their relationships with their dogs and each other. I actually rented it during my obsession with Bottle Rocket/the Wilson brothers, as Luke Wilson played the male lead. Bruce McCulloch, of KITH, directed it, which I used to (weakly) justify my actions.

That sounds enjoyable, Anne, is it any good? Or does that "(weakly)" portend doom?

I have a feeling Flasshe is holding back a bestiality joke. The title of the Cusack/Lane film takes on a whole different meaning in that context.

It wasnt memorable, but was generally harmless as romantic comedies go...no substance or insight but the cast was appealing and it was good for a few chuckles (e.g., Mark McKinney as a dog trainer/therapist).

As a dog lover, I had also hoped that MLD would be good, but making an actual quality romantic comedy seems to be a lost art in H'wood these days. I guess that's why the handful of classics ("When Harry Met Sally," "Annie Hall," et al) are so revered.

You got it, BP. Sorry, Paulzer.

Hey! Speaking of "Annie Hall", last night I went to the Brooklyn Cyclones (minor league baseball) game in Coney Island, and I realized that to build their ballpark (five years ago) they had to demolish the old *other* roller-coaster with the house under it that served as Alvy Singer's childhood home in that movie.

Was the joke just that instead of the traditional changing of one word in a title, all the other film industry would have to do for the "adaptation" would be to add ellipses between the words? And Paula, I'm worried about you lately. I can only hope that at least if ya ran across something titled "Magic Wanda Must Love Dogs" that your suss-o-vision would return.
