Monk/Monster Mixup: a most unfortunate warehouse picking error.

Indeed...And I love that it's the first time this has happened to me in 3 years of 'flixing.

How about "inclement" in reference to a political climate? Such as, "Senator Muckenfuss (R-Iowa) tabled his discussion on redistricting, sensing inclement political conditions." ... or, maybe it could be used to describe a situation or state of being that is unlike the clementine, that small sweet orange fruit. That way, pretty much anything you can think of - other than clementines, and maybe tangerines - could be inclement.

Or I could use the pen name Inclement Seymour.

"The escaped chimp is dangerous and should not be approached." Imagine approaching an escaped chimp. (Matter of fact, though, maybe I've been out with an escaped chimp; the photo in that article does look familiar.)

Funny: I was listening to the Vanderslice this morning in my car. Similar thoughts: at first I was a bit disappointed. I think because most the songs are slower and the sounds are, uh, "rounder" rather than sharp or insistent: moments even reminded me of what a non- jazz-obsessed Steely Dan might sound like, although that's actually a good thing. But the songs are really good, and even if the record could have stood another livelier song (the one about the detectives is, at first, almost offputting in its change of tone), it'll probably end up in my top 20 (candidates for which I'm auditioning for the next few weeks).

Not an original thought, but iTunes has definitely changed the way I evaluate albums. Commenting on sequencing or overall mood is almost pointless, as albums can be so easily broken up now into more enjoyable parts.

Not in the car they can't. Anyway, I disagree: I still believe the album is a viable form, and that sequencing *should* be paid attention to. (Of course, nothing you say precludes a musician from doing so.) You'll notice that musicians still generally release things as albums (rather than just a random collection of single tracks).

OK, first of all, the one-liner about meditation made me guffaw.

Second, there are albums - especially ones that are, shall we say, fairly same-y in tone and/or tempo - that I can't make it through when I'm listening to the tracks consecutively. But when iTunes breaks them up, I can realize value from them and apreciate them in a way I didn't before. For me, Stan Ridgway's solo career has become a heretofore-underappreciated gold mine - I *still* have little interest in listening to one of his solo albums all the way through (with the possible exception of The Big Heat), but every time one of his songs pops up on the iPod/iTunes, sandwiched between, say, the Fall and Kylie Minogue, well, it's a delight.

I do say all this while completely agreeing with Mr. 2fs' point about the album still being important. I guess I am splitting the fence or sawing the baby or something - but I see and agree with both sides. Dammit.

Don't get me wrong--I love albums-qua-albums. I love concept records, theme records, and sitting down and listening to an album to decode it like a novel. I guess what I'm saying is that additionally, the Way of iTunes has increased my enjoyment of albums and artists that I'd previously be writing off. So everybody wins!
