Actually, if you look back at his earlier SOTU speaches, he pretty much says we are addicted to oil and it has to stop every time. As far as B&S go, I agree their latest is impossible to get out of your head. I'm going to have to comb your archives to find out what your beef is with them and the SOIR. Does this thing have a search?

No, Diaryland is pretty basic, no frills. I love B&S despite not being down with the whole "twee" thing...I don't like wimpy boy rockers or lame drum sounds or electric guitars played strummily. I can't 'splain it, except that I believe we're all allowed to love one or two bands from our most hated genres and sub-genres...

Diaryland is ok. It's growing on me. (Glad I found the RSS feeds though.) I know what you mean about "twee" stuff. B&S seems to transcend that to me. Their melodies are so strong, their musicianship sounds pretty inventive to me (a total non-musician) even as they sound familiar (if that makes sense), their lyrics typically are literate, original, humorous, witty...much like your own. "A pleasing combination of heart and smart and sweet..."

D'OH! That should have read "A pleasing combination of HARD and smart and sweet..."

Wah? Really?

Yes!
"A pleasing combination of heart and smart and sweet..."
Hmmm, that's actually an interesting mis-hearing, it makes more sense almost!

RSS feed: http://pcarino.diaryland.com/index.rss Mis-hearing: I ALWAYS hear it that way even though you sent me your lyrics 4 years ago! As I consider it though, I think "hard" is better because "heart" and "sweet" is sort of redundant, no?

Tom, if you be Ronca, and didn't see yesterdays comments, the Nipponese name of "Comic Magazine" is in there, in case that helps.

Paula - 2006-02-01 13:27:09
Bob: That's not Ronca. Ronca seems to have disappeared. I suspect foul play.

Bush: "The best way to break this (oil) addiction is through technology." Not conservation, mind you.

Tom - 2006-02-01 13:48:50
Paula is correct. I am not now, nor have I ever been, Ronca. I don't know if that is good or bad though. ;-)

I am Ronca -- I disappeared to Big Bear & Joshua Tree for about 3 days, then the cold I got almost immediately upon return disappeared me for about another 4. I'm back; more to follow.

I...am...Kirok! Anyway: I think the whole "dependence on Mideast oil" thing with Bush (notice he says nothing about Venezuelan oil, or Mexican oil, or...) is part of his ongoing push to put oil rigs in every home and wildlife preserve. A moment's thought, though, will demonstrate that individual cutbacks (though laudable) aren't sufficient, since plenty of people's lives are structured such that they must consume oil. And I'm not talking about "lifestyles," I mean lives: where they live, where they work, what their jobs require, etc.

Tom - 2006-02-01 18:40:26
I'm also not Spartacus, but I could be Brian... 2fs: I'm sure Sue is referring to national oil conservation measures and not just relying on "individual cutbacks". For example, if the US had enforced compliance with average fuel efficiency standards instead of scraping the whole deal our oil usage as a nation would be significantly less than it is now. Those kinds of things can make a very large difference.

2fs - 2006-02-01 22:25:40
Tom: No, I knew what Sue meant. I was guessing as to what Bush meant (i.e., individualizing rather than either of the measures you mention). Furthermore, because I am psychic, I know what you, Timmy Lamont of Thousand Oaks, California, are thinking *right now*! You should be ashamed!
