I agree with you completely, for once. I was surprised by the outcome of it. I expected a sappy, overlong, dull, chick flick, but it was more than that. I guess it was a chick flick for those who don't like chick flicks. But, after all, it was from the director of both L.A. Confidential, and Wonder Boys, and those are two of my favorite movies, so I shouldn't expect anything less.

The book is good too.

Well, if you mean "three of the main characters are women," and "there are no car chases," then yeah I guess you're right. But the term "chick flick" grates on my nerves a little.

I also enjoyed that other chick flick The Fight Club.

I can't open that movie--can you describe?

Haven't seen it, but Cameron Diaz, who I don't believe started out as an actress, struck me as being a lot more competent than a lot of Hollywood actresses, in "Being John Malcovich" and even "Something About Mary".

I agree--for some reason she has this reputation of being ditzy, but she was good in all three films. And she's not playing the sympathetic "kooky gal" Goldie Hawn role in this, either--her character is meant to be seen as flawed.

Well this is going to ruin the joke sort of, but I was pointing to a re-cut of the trailer for Fight Club that presents it as a kooky romantic comedy. There is a whole slew of these remixes of movie trailers with the best probably being this remix of The Shining.

Tom G.'s link is to the brilliant fake trailer using clips from Fight Club to make the movie seem like a romantic comedy...

There's a Sleepless in Seattle trailer that makes it out to be a thriller. I didn't know there were more. . .

There's also a good trailer called Brokeback to the Future which details the forbidden love between Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd. You can also find it here if you're not a salon subscriber. Just go to videos and scroll down.
