A roll in the hay,
Could be meant literally,
Despite your desires.

I think Valentines day is right up there with New years & St Patricks day as the worst night to go out in NYC. Its as if the entire city is engaged in one big Wink Wink nudge nudge

I have a soft spot for V-day, even when I'm single. The atmosphere in the office today is really giddy. Someone brought cookies! I got a free cupcake at lunch! Love is in the air!

Happy Valentine's day... but don't think you're off the hook on "bathos", Paula! (I added something more to yesterday's.)

Hmm, I see it wasn't even you, but Sharps, that first used "bathos" in what I consider to be a "precious modern conflagration" sense, long ago here, but he used it very precisely, in that particular sense, because he was referring to a mournful waltz arrangement driving a song into "bathos", not to that version of the song being mournful. But one can just modify "pathos" to get that overinflated-til-popped denotation of it, whereas the senses that I put forth here of the two, way back when, makes what I consider to be a more useful distinction between them, that the ancient geeks probably had in mind.

The hermit's plea, is a beautiful ode to humanity and friendship, too bad how it turned out, whew.
