The day following a Yankees world series victory son the N train I noticed various people reading a variety of newspapers. All in all I saw the story being read about in 6 different alphabets. Them letter subways are so upscale.

The one other thing I noticed was that the Daily News had a cover story about Donald Trump's new baby, with the admittedly hilarious headline "You've Been Sired!"

When I started working in SF and commuted on BART, I was so impressed with those who had their laptops open and apparently hard at work. But each time I would catch a glimpse of what was on their screens, it was invariably Solitaire or FreeCell! Same thing with cell phones. Games drive the economy...

Moby Dick is in my literary Holy Trinity, actually, right alongside Ball Four and Please Kill Me.

Ball Four

There is a long family in-joke/saga about this book that I don't have time to tell. Mebbe if my sister is reading this she can chime in. Mags?

Solitaire or FreeCell!

I just found out that my work computer ha a variety of games, includng backgammon. I shuddered--instant flashback to an old secretarial job where computer backgammon became a serious addiction. The moment was not unlike episode 32 of News Radio, where Dave confronts his old nemesis, Stargate Defender. "So we meet again."

My game nemesis was always Nethack (I could quit anytime I wanted to). I managed to quit cold turkey a couple of years ago, but the other day on the bus I saw someone playing on their laptop and I got the itch again.
