That is SO cool! Maybe I should rethink my aversion to MySpace. . . . :)

Trixie, I think you'd have fun with MySpace. And it is a nice way to hear new music, too.

Thanks, yes, we did rock! (big fun)

but I don't know about instant pressed flowers, I feel like time is integral to the aesthetic, the reminder of the time that has elapsed, may be more intrinsic to their beauty that their simple prettiness.

My vision of using that contraption didn't even get as far as thinking about the flowers--I just enjoy the shape of thingamajig itself.

I'd say go for the flower press if it makes you happy. You can frame the flowers and intersperse them on your wall with your framed Ramones' LPs. I got the MySpace thing from Abra Moore last Summer, and it's a really cool feeling to get from someone whose work you adore. I also get it from a lot of local bands, but I tend to turn down the ones I either haven't heard or who I think need lots more practice before attempting live performance for paying audiences.

I feel your giddy joy... I had the same when I reconnected with Renne Lobue of Elk City, who remembered me from writing her a fan letter back in the early 1990s. Also I got asked to be the friends of Rainer Maria and Moonbabies because, assumedly, I had their names on my music list, too. One day DJ Deprave (my band name) will be on peoples music lists too, then I will CONQUER

Hey, DJ Deprave, I used to know Renee from the ol' NJ crowd, too. I haven't seen any of her post-Melting Hopefuls bands, but I remember she and Ray used to put on amazing live shows.

Wow, you should totally myspace her; both MH and EC are up there. They're between labels at the moment so could use the moral support.

Paula - 2006-04-19 15:38:59
I have befriended them both. Yay, myspace.

I'm pissed that none of you guys ever visits my website. I mean, of course it's really mine - it's got my name on it!

Myspace has quickly become my primary source (after word of mouth)for finding new music. It eliminates formulaic reviews--and the biases of managing editors and their stables of preferred writers with very specific and/or predictable tastes. It's like a listening booth in an old-fashioned record store. And for all you guys looking for love and friendship long distance from Eastern Europe--Myspace is YourPlace. And Brad--I'm just a tad miffed--I ain't no hollaback girl.

Paula--you must have a lot of blog readers because Barbara Manning's page was inaccessible (sp?) last night--said the server was too busy.

Paula - 2006-04-20 12:15:29
Hey, this raises an important question. what is a hollaback girl? I looked at the lyrics to the song and though now I understand that Gwen Stefani is not no hollaback girl, I'm still not quite sure who is. anyone?

Joe - 2006-04-20 13:06:07
I believe a hollaback girl is a woman who will respond to attention from a man who's just using her.

Greg - 2006-04-20 13:18:33
Okay, this is from the Urban Dictionary, which is like the Fodor's Travel Guide for the decidely middle-aged and unhip--like myself: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=holla+back+girl&r=f

I axed my co-workers, and there was much discussion. It turns out that there is a story behind the song that expains the concept a little further, and essentially a "hollaback girl" is like a "yes man"--someone who doesn't call the shots.

RE: Gwen Stefani live -- by far the worst vocal performance I have EVER witnessed and I thought it might be a fluke but a while later on SNL singing don't speak she was even worse. So bad I was embarrassed for her.
