Re: Von Trier--I've only seen his Medea, which is incredible, and The Idiots, which is no less incredible but was the most uncomfortable film I've ever watched... way beyond squirmy. Hard film to recommend but I will because sometimes that sort of challenge is good.

"Liebniz" is close to "liebchen", so there you go. As for The Kingdom, I've seen it twice, and loved it both times. I even sat in a musty rep house theater with no air conditioning on a 105-degree day to see The Kingdom II, not available on DVD in the US yet.

'The Kingdom' is one of my top ten fav TV shows of all time -- and yes, it does bear some resemblance to 'Twin Peaks', but is ulitmately weirder, yet more comprehensible (I suspect because it was more throughly thought out)

There's another respect in which I think The Kingdom is like Twin Peaks: Like Lynch, Von Trier has to reign in his worst excesses to work in film. I like most of Lynch's features what I perceive as some regrettable tendencies, but Von Trier can be really, really ugly. I recommend The Kingdom unstintingly (although the American remake, Kingdom Hospital, was dreadful) but I urge extreme caution in exploring the Von Trier catalog further.

Summervillain: I got what you meant from the context. And from what I've read about LvT's films, I'm just not too interested.
