I know we keep talking about band names - but damn I can never keep straight which "Black" band the Black Keys is. I could rectify that by looking around for song samples online, I'm sure. But I am also lazy, and like complaining about redundant band-name particles more than googling. And also: I think the Walkmen's whole aesthetic involves tinniness (in a good way) - they'll be sunk if anyone ever steals that piano, for example. Haven't heard the new one though. From now on, though, they're "The Black Walkmen."

2Fs: I love the Black Keys! They are the raunchy blues guitar/drum duo from Akron. I gave you their "No Trust" on my best-of-2003 mix CD. Peeple lump them in with White Stripes but I like them special. If they're playing, maybe you, me, and the wives could go see them when we're out there in a couple of weeks!

I was just thinking how much fun it would be to see the Black Keys, but their only New York dates are opening for Radiohead--and I'm one of those creeps that Radiohead Heads hate, that really only liked two songs on Pablo Honey--Creep being one of them.

I'd only wanna see Black Keys in some small, intimate venue. Their magic would dissipate, I suspect, in a larger setting.

Small, intimate venues are pretty much the only way I want to see anybody, having been to my share of gigantor arena shows--and it's always about the spectacle then, either some bombastic staging a la Pink Floyd or the crowd a la Grateful Dead--But I can't think of anybody I would care to see in an arena now. Actually DID see White Stripes at Irving Plaza a few years ago and that was almost too big for them.
