I've never even seen anybody do the lime thing... interesting. I do know that no matter how badly a can of beer is shaken you can open it safely provided you tap it three times on the top first. Has to be three times though, not 4 or 2.

I am, apparently, a grumpy drinker of the sort that despises any sorts of bar tricks...particularly when indulged in by the bartender. Flip or toss or throw anything at any point in the procuring of my drink, and there goes yr tip, buddy. I blame (as I do for so many stupid things) Tom Cruise. What's amusing about the commentary at the linked site is that with the bit about getting the lime out of the bottle in less than a second, you need to specify that the bottle remains whole...otherwise, of course, you could just smash the bottle. 'Course, in civilized bars that would get you kicked out the door - but those places have long since banned me anyway, so what do I care. I also agree with the party there who pointed that, uh, you don't know whether that lime is clean. Best example of this: when you were younger, did you ever play "Quarters" or a variation that involved getting a coin into a drink? You will not play this game anymore after this: in Madison in 1981 I saw a couple of frat boys on State Street indulging in a variation that involved a glass of beer on the ground, and a quarter suspended (temporarily) above the bottle via pressure of asscheeks. So: you wanna drink that beer with the quarter in it now? Didn't think so...

Third to last sentence: substitute "glass" for bottle. And substitute "ubiquitous college-town plastic cup" for glass.

"friends"? No - the frat boys I spoke of were (thankfully) complete strangers to me: I was a mere witness, walking past their amusements in relative sobriety.
