You're such a liberal... you just fell right into that lumpy hedgehog lobbyist propaganda didn't you?

you mean...could it be...a hedgehog hoax?

The Po Bronson is great because it isn't just "You must love your family", it's "Sometimes you love your family, and sometimes you make a new one".

I've been obsessing over that Scott Walker CD, in fact. I may yet write up something about it. You're right that "enjoy" might not be the right word...but I think calling the notion of "enjoying" everything into question is aesthetically valuable as well. Anyway: even if I didn't like it at all, I'd appluad it just for existing so clearly as a product of an intensely musical and artistic focus, with about zero regard for precedent and (still less) commercial prospects. (And props to Ivo at 4.A.D. for releasing it as well.) Despite the powerfully serious nature of the album generally, it also corrects the general impression that Scott Walker has no detectable sense of humor: I think that rather Satanic Donald Duck impression (stealing Bugs Bunny's catchphrase no less) takes care of that. Of course, that moment's also scary as hell - humor as dark as the CD's artwork - but humor it is all the same.

Paula, you'd be absolutely shocked to learn how much money is pilfered from our tax coffers by these hedgehog and hamster hoaxters. Haven't heard Scott Walker but speaking of "dark" I was listening to Malcolm Middleton over the weekend. His least happy songs make Leonard Cohen sound like Shiny Happy People on repeat. Certainly not without humor but, oh man... He's got a Myspace Page also but hasn't accepted my offer of friendship yet. Probably hates hedgehogs, the bastard!

I meant to say "his most happy." There are days when I feel like a '66 Impala rattling down the highway and missing on a couple cylinders.
