I also found the first season of Weeds to be meh, though I have the mad love for Mary-Louise Parker and so wanted to like it. I'm not sure what it is about the Showtime dramas in general, but they seem to lack a certain touch of comedic sizzle that the HBO series almost universally have. Perhaps it's the influence of whoever approves the various series, or maybe HBO is paying more and can be choosy and leaves the dregs to Showtime.

Alan: I wanted to like it, too, for the same reason.

Like most Showtime dramadies, I found Weeds too heavy on the depression / talkiness / psychobabble and too light on the actual funniness. But I'll tune into the second season next week to see if it has improved. And even though I like MLP a lot, there's a certain amount of flatness to her performance here that I'm not sure is entirely due to the emotional drained-ness of her character.

Bonus points to bands with singing drummers: Agreed! In that spirit, I have posted a song by the late great Christmas, with the little drummer girl Liz Cox singing and percussing her heart out.
