One way to tell the true Messiah, I bet, is that he or she wouldn't **need** a click track. I think I suffered through a Wooden Wand opening set sometime last year, unless I'm thinking of some other sloppy folky act. I kept trying to like them for their evident good qualities, and failing.

Well darn you all to heck, Mr. Villain - you beat me to the point that Jesus wouldn't need a click track. One thing I don't get about Goatwhore: are they talking about a whore that is a goat, or a whore that, uh, is patronized by goats? But if the latter, how could the whore be a whore, since goats don't have any sort of economy or means of exchange? There's a Monty Python skit lurking in here somewhere, I'm sure. Finally: do metal guys realize they're ridiculous, or are they just not in on the joke? (Confession: I admit I'm just assuming any band named "Goatwhore" is metal or has metalish components.)

I interpret it as someone who is just slavishly into goats, like a "publicity whore."

..."it made me like everything." That thar's a problem with skateboarding, too, and I honestly think (and thought at the time) that that was what washed out American hardcore (and ultimately led to today's standardized So Cal kiddy punk vocals). By 1984 every skater had to have a thrash band, and it all sounded good to them and their friends, cuz they were full of skate endorphins... instead of any sort of musical talent (and I just mean talent, not skill). And it became too hard to wade through to find the good, so much of the good guv it up. And of course it didn't help that Henry and Ian gave anger a hokey name, but still, I mostly blame skaters. (Though I must say, I actually wound up liking Duane Peters' music - at least what I heard in his autobiographical skate video that came out last year [which is a lot more honest, even in its assinine tone, than the dogtown movies] - more than I thought I would.)
