Say no to crappy coffee -- in addition, did you know that because coffee is not "ingested" (in the sense that most fruits and vegetables are), farmers are allowed to use greater amounts of pesticides when growing this crop? So it's worth seeking out the organic brands as well (this is also practiced in the cultivation of tea leaf crops as well, unfortunately)

I watched the strangest news piece a while ago, on Steve Irwin. A doctor was explaining to a talking head that Steve Irwin was an example of of someone addicted to thrillseeking, and had developed a disorder... something about dopamine and the affliction growing at an alarming rate. The piece went on for ages. Is it any wonder Elvis shot his television?

Re: great musician names--I was fond of Moulty, or as fond as a person can be of single names--but Buck Dharma is just about as uncool a name as a man can give himself, even given the times--I did, however, really appreciate Buck Naked, of the Bare Bottom Boys, one of the most blazing hot rock and roll bands I ever saw.

Root Boy Slim. Voot Warnings. The Phlorescent Leech & Eddie (later just Flo & Eddie). Captain Beefheart. All the nicknames Captain Beefheart bestowed on his musicians (Richard Midnight Hatsize Snyder for some reason leaps to mind...). Gurf Morlix (no way that's his real name!). That'll do for a start.

If only Miff had lived long enough to record with Gurf!

"Moulty!"

Actually, Greg that diagnosis of Irwin sounds pretty accurate. I think the word "addiction" is thrown around a little carelessly, but I would agree that his thrill-seeking might have had some neurotic component to it.

I guess I'm more like the little bald dude in My Dinner With Andre... when he says at the end that he's happy if he wakes up in the morning and there's no cockroach doing the backstroke in last night's cup of coffee. And I have to agree with, "MOULTY!"

Then again if I drank the GOOD coffee I'm quite sure there would be none left in the cup when I pass out.

I hate to piss on anyone's parade, but...that "Moulty" song is just terrible. I mean, okay, you know: good story, drummer with a hook for a hand, etc. - but the song is strictly afterschool special. It's also pretty damned funny, in that very way.

Cue Buster Bluth: "I'm a...monster!"

Bob - 2006-09-06 01:22:26
But I think a pitcher who won his major league debut later this day tops those musicians, with the name "Boof Bonser".

I'm a monster. Got a random teenage head. Teenage monster. California born and bred. 2fs--I don't mind songs that are intentionally stupid. In fact, they're my favorite kind of songs. It's the ones that just don't know they're stupid...

There is one good supermarket coffee: Cafe Bustelo.

Paula - 2006-09-07 15:49:43
BP, Cafe Bustelo has done in a pinch, but I'm still not in love with it. I think there is just something in the process of freeze-drying or canning the ground-up beans that ruins the flavor. But I am persnickety about certain liquids.
