Do the people who say "underwears" "do maths"? I sort of agree with you on the Dylan thing, except I'm closer to thinking that a number of his songs are good when done by ANYONE (like Jason & the Scorchers, Jimi, Byrds) except him.

a number of his songs are good when done by ANYONE ... except him.

That's actually closer to my real opinion, maybe I'll go back and edit.

I agree with the Dylan thing too. And have you heard his latest? Universal critical acclaim and I just can't see why. I can't wait for the first good cover of "When the Deal Goes Down".

I have issues with Bob too & am so nervous about it that I wonder whether I shd have used an alias for this comment. I dig "The lonesome death of Hattie Carroll" FWIW. Also? As far as Bay Ridge goes, do you love its Ridge? Just curious.

Just as a vessel cannot exist without its emptiness, and Tommy James cannot exist without Shondells, The Bay could not exist without a Ridge. Therefore, to love the Bay is to love the Ridge.

"Maths" is a Britishism: I don't know if it's also any sort of American regionalism. Never heard "underwears" before...

I think underwears is a Brooklynism. Another Brooklynism-all the public schools have numbers so for example Middle School 88, or MS88, would be Eighty-Eights etc. There are others, well exhibited in Saturday Night Fever, which nailed the region for that era. My favorite is the pronunciation of "whore" which is Who-uh. Phonetically you may here, "That who-uh had huh unduhwehz hangin' out." Um.. I don't know if misogyny is connected to the tight seamless disco trousers... maybe the flashing lights.

Sometimes I remember the difference between hear and here, and here, either one is pronounced He-uh.
