That quote is too humbling...

One of mine is "quit AOL" -- I've been on there since 1993 and keep meaning to get off, because it's an evil panderer to the middle states with no sense of cool whatsoever. Another is to not get resentments against artists who actually DO what I only think about doing, such as this kid who did Funny Ha Ha. It's like "I THOUGHT about doing that, therefore I hate him. Therefore my hating him is yet another procrastinative reason why I am not doing the very thing he already did myself." Uh oh, could this possibly be "Erich hatin' on himself" Monday?

Don't hate on yrself, Erich! Any man who can write a serious academic article about Big Momma's House 2 has my admiration forever and ever.

My journals from the 80s and early 90s are filled with cringe-inducing to-do lists.
When I was 16, I made a to-do list that said something like: "Summer Plan - buy a lid - sit in upstairs bedroom at Granny's house and smoke it all." It fell out of my pocket and my Granny found it. Oops!

I meant that the list fell out of my pocket, not the weed. Which was way more embarrassing.

Oh, I just remembered that my Granny had a boarder in the 70s, a college-age gal named Carla. My grandmother found one of Carla's to-do lists lying around, and it said: 1. Get up. 2. Eat breakfast. 3. Get laid.

Ha, BP!

I distinctly remember making a plan for the summer between 6th and 7th grade, and the top three items were, "Learn Spanish, Patch things up with Stacey and Tracy [my 2 best friends who I kinda dropped], Find myself."

And around the same time, I wrote on the frame of my dresser mirror, "Be cool," as...a reminder.

Carla's to-do list is admirable in its concision and universality.
