Oh, pray, tell us; how would one go about hearing your rendition of "Battlestar Connecticut". The People want to know...

It'll be on my new alboom!

Wow, this is like a talk show.

Yep, I'm a burgeoning Figgs fan, thanks to Jon's tireless efforts on their behalf... A copy of one of their CDs showed up in my review pile years ago (obviously, since I haven't professionally reviewed for years) and while I liked it pretty well, it didn't quite click the way it does now. Anyhoo...finally heard the new track by that Carino woman: pretty cool. Two trivial thoughts: were you trying to torture Sharples with all those tricky rhythm shifts? And: have you ever done "Harper Valley PTA" at karaoke? Cuz I kept inadvertently hearing Jeannie C. Riley (John C. Reilly's cousin) in your voice...just add more twang!

Torturing Sharples is a hobby of mine.

And Jeannie C. Riley? Interesting comparison. She has a very cool life story, I think MOJO did an article on her a few years back.

When does Sufjan have time to eat?

How does Jeff get copies of your new songs?
-------------------------------
Paula - 2006-10-27 14:34:03
Hi Joe: welcome back from your world tour!

Jeff has no special privileges (in fact, he's on probation), I just linked to my MySpace page the other day, the new MP3 is "Road to Hell."
-------------------------------
Greg - 2006-10-27 17:34:25
I was just on the road to hell. It's very long and very straight, with giant loudspeakers playing Horse With No Name (the most annoying song ever written)night and day.
-------------------------------
Sharps - 2006-10-27 18:02:47
I'm not really sure the rhythm is supposed to change in Road to Hell...it could have inadvertently of course...and I'm not even sure if the meter changes. I think it's one of those accent shifts that fools you into thinking it's a meter change. On further reflection, I guess I don't really know what's going on with Road to Hell.
-------------------------------
Paula - 2006-10-27 23:34:14
The meter changes on the line in the bridge, "How good do we have to be...?" From 4/4 to 3/4 (or 6/8)

Adam - 2006-10-28 02:35:48
Ah 3/4 vs 6/8: The eternal conundrum. Also? America's "Ventura Highway" covers a multitude of sins. Also? My dad only listened to 5 Christmas LP's back in the '70's. One was Mahalia Jackson, one was Johnny Mathis,...
-------------------------------
Greg - 2006-10-28 10:22:47
I've got a great Mahalia Jackson Christmas album... my favorites are the Sing Along With Mitch--Mitch Miller and his crew. They still give me the warm fuzzies and I couldn't get through Christmas without them. Vince Guaraldi too. Pretty traditional stuff I guess.
-------------------------------
Greg - 2006-10-28 10:30:51
I'm trying to get Ventura Highway out of my brain... God only knows why America makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Maybe I should go the barber so there would be less there?

Re: Christmas albums....it's really getting out of hand, it is an industry unto itself these days. I am old-skool: Vince G., Harry Simeone Chorale, "Christmas Wrapping," and Star Wars Christmas.*

*Yes, I do own the cassette, and it's still in shrinkwrap, never to be opened in my lifetime.
-------------------------------
Greg - 2006-10-28 15:08:53
I've yet to hear a pop/rock/r&b Christmas song that I like, with the exception of Robert Earl Keen Jr.'s Merry Christmas From The Family, and that doesn't really count because it's just sarcasm--good natured or not.

Jon der Neathica - 2006-10-29 22:26:53
Why does Paula get new Figgs album that Jon not have yet? Life no fair.
-------------------------------
Paula - 2006-10-29 23:29:33
Well, Jon, I have good grooming habits, and boys like that.
