It's hard to comprehend if you've been to Mexico in the last 20 years, that the violence seen in recent months in Oaxaca has been happening all over the southern part of the country for more than a decade. The death toll is staggering, entering the thousands before the end of the 90s. You won't see much on the news here. There isn't much on the news there either. It's largely an invisible war, unless like Brad Will you make it your business to see it. It's humbling and tragic--I only knew him by name and reputation--he was definitely one of the good guys. So we can say--hey man, that's Mexico--but it could be here too. It has been here. Greensboro wasn't all that long ago, same cause--same ending--same criminals. Blair Mountain is a similar story--an interesting one to Google and read up on really--and you can learn the etymology of the term "redneck" which wasn't necessarily pejorative in its origins unless you're rabidly anti-union. Anyway--Best to the family and friends of Brad Will. The world needs more of him.

Yeah he spent all his time in chat harrassing me about Musharraf in public and hitting on me in private. Sent me a photograph of himself from his university ID card. I was not impressed.
