Lately, Danny Elfman's scores have become repetitive to the point of infuriating, but a few of his early ones ("Darkman", "Nightmare Before Christmas", "Peewee's Big Adventure", heck, even "The Simpsons" theme) really hold up. "Edward Scissorhands" is my favorite of all his symphonic film scores -- lyrical, delicate, even sweet in places, but scary and dynamic when it needs to be. I don't think I could sit through a 'musical' version however, especially one with "Webber-isms" -- If somebody wanted to make a Elfman-based musical, why didn't they just stage "Nightmare Before Xmas" or "Forbidden Zone"; they're both great!

Tom: no doubt someone will! And the Corpse Bride, too.

Tris: I've never seen you be awful, can't happen.

Hey, you know I love rehearsin' with you.

what I want: fewer lies, some modicum of humanity, integrity, people, leaders, who are not only trying grab more power for themselves, but actually expend some energy on an agenda, any agenda, that derives from an honest desire to make this a better world, and with maybe enough intelligence, and fortitude to give such an effort some hope...

I want a bagel.

And, oh yeah, some actual intelligence in government.

Nightmare before XMAS: go see it in the theaters now, rereleased in 3d. An amazing movie I have watched with my kids 6 gazillion times that looks (and sounds) even better on the big screen. The oggie boogie scenes look great in 3D.

I sure wish I could see Tris McCall tonight -- unfortunately, I'm 3,000 miles away. I'll be sure to listen to his CD today, though, in honor of the gig! As for "Edward," the musical version is playing in San Francisco, I suppose as a pre-B'way tryout. I usually never go to those "Best of Broadway" shows because it's around $90 for a decent ticket, but it'll be interesting to read the reviews.

Vision 2006--Wow... where to begin. A true ERA Amendment that protects and defends rights as stated in the Constitution to protect all men and women, regardless of race, creed, color, gender, sexual orientation. This should include, but not be limited to protection for jobs, housing, education with an expansion of prosecution for discriminatory and/or violent acts. I'd like to see a law enacted that goes beyond Roe V. Wade to protect reproductive rights. I'd like to see more equitable immigration laws. I'd like stringent environmental laws that cover not just the United States but cover the actions of corporations abroad and foreign corporations where Americans have controlling interest. In short, I want a world where there is nothing difficult about being Green. I'd like a complete withdrawal of troops from Iraq and increased non-military relationships in the Middle East and South Asia. I want the efforts to find a cure for AIDS to be increased a hundredfold. More comprehensive plans to address infant and maternal mortality rates and womens' rights internationally. In all, like Wombat says... a modicum of humanity. Absolute humanity. And hope. Yeah... hope.

Brownies aren't so cool for dogs either. We're talking Jackson Pollack on all fours.

Greg. Everything you want seems to add huge number of people to this world. Yikes.

Chris--Is our planet overpopulated or are the resources under-distributed? All projections right now are measured by how things are and not how things could be. Lets work on overpopulation when people aren't being murdered or dying by the millions from neglect. Unless of course you meant the other post--and I don't see how Jackson Pollack on all fours could lead to overcrowding--and I didn't say I wanted him that way anyway.

A vision for successfully uniting Iraq doesn't seem likely, of course, but splitting it in three, on the other hand, seems like it would inevitably result in the Shiite nation and Iran attacking the Sunni nation, to settle scores... and our only scary deterent would be bombers, but Iran and the Sunnis have shown a willingness to die by the hundreds of thousands to do one another in, and going so far as to nuke 'em would kinda defeat the purpose of bombing. And this probably even applies if we were to pull out without officially splitting the country in three. So that's a tough one to have a positive vision about. Sadaam's pretensions of WMD, backed up by past willingness to gas people, seem about as benign as its gonna get anytime soon, and that's all Humpty Dumpty at this point.

What do I want? To be able to even begin thinking of "what do I want?" without giving up in despair at the absurd utopianism of even imagining it might be possible. But Flasshe, if you're not gonna finish that bagel...

Paula is so dead-on right with this on every level. I'll leave the spiritual side to others but think about it practically. What do we want really? Do we just want Bush out of office? Do we just want out of Iraq? It's long past the time we should be thinking about who we're going to replace him and his crew with. So far the only "credible" competition are bozos that all voted for the invasion. Now they're standing up telling us they were duped along with us. Bullshit! Firstly, what else don't they know? What else have they been voting for? My "liberal" senators helped rush off cluster bombs to drop on civilians in Lebanon. And think about it--have any of them offered any kind of plan? Have any of them had a single progressive idea since they've been in public office? The answer is no. They're all hacks. Getting George Bush out of office is going to mean precious little if we put these clowns in his place. Asking people what they truly want is brilliant! It should be a daily challenge that we all take really seriously.

What do you want, Paula? I want things not to get worse. My expectations are low; I'm feeling good about them. Baby steps. I would like an orange whip -- no -- three; three orange whips. Thank you.

What do I want? I want people to learn how to communicate so that real connection and cooperation is possible. I want everyone to learn how to find inner peace so that they aren't looking for satisfaction in all the wrong places (like dominating other people, hoarding resources, etc.) I want to live in a country without political parties. I want a pre-CBS Fender Mustang (preferably Daphne blue but I'm flexible about the color.)
