To this day I can't figure out what I was in college - I wore black an awful lot, did my hair up in Robert Smith style, wore red lippy in honor of the Cure - but the white makeup seemed a bit, well.. pointless. I was never into the death thing, though; the Cure and the Smiths and Echo and alternative and industrial were my thing. And I certainly had enough energy and rebellion in me to classify me as one of the living. But I wasn't nihilistic to be a punk either and was an overachiever within the system. So can anyone figure it out for me? There's a big smeary red lipsticked kiss for you in it if you do...

When I was in high school, I was kind of balding, with a long ponytail, and I liked to record noodly ambient music with my friends. I guess I was...eno.

Lately I've been feeling the urge to hike in the woods, tie all kinds of exotic knots, and collect merit badges. Does this mean I'm... webelo?

Bina, that was me in college. I think we called ourselves Goth for no good reason, although one of the ladies wore a PVC skirt now & then.

To look good in a PVC skirt you almost have to be Bulemo! Paula... HAR!

Hey, Joe, I think I saw you at a Skinny Puppy gig... I could never wear a PVC skirt. I would break out in hives.

I myself, during that period of insecurity, liked to afix large wings to my arms, paste black feathers to cover most of my body, and flap about. I guess in retrospect I was an EMU.

Chris - hehehehe! Interestingly, as drawn as I was to punks and goths, I couldn't bring myself to wear Doc Martens, because they were what the skinheads in Britain wore as they kicked my Asian brethren's heads in on the streets of London... have never worn a pair in my life to this day and never plan to.

This is now one of my favorite IHOP entries because there are so many Pun-ks... okay, that one was reaching a bit.
