Furry Lewis absolutely rocks! I've got a really good reissue of two albums from 1961. Really incredible! yaaaay Furry!

I only know him from his Harry Smith Anthology track and the (awesome) Joni Mitchell song "Furry Sings The Blues." Sounds like I need to get some more. Have you checked out Mississippi John Hurt? (youtube)

Furry played at my grade school (in Memphis). I had a couple of friends in high school who regularly made the trek to Furry's house with a bottle of booze ("bring him smoke and drink and he'll play for you." - it was true). The Joni Mitchell song is wonderful - it very accurately depicts the Beale St. I knew as a kid, before they cleaned it up in the early 80s and made it a tourist attraction.

Oh, crap, really? Argh. Bad intel, and I wrote that in my real review for work. In fact, it was my whole angle.

Lewis supposedly hated Joni's song and I think he considered suing her for royalties because he thought he was entitled to them since he was mentioned in the tune. It was a great song, though -- lyrics here.
