So you didn't do anything real out here in La-La Land? Talk about feeling humbled...

Re: The A.L. photos--the difference in approach between the celebrity photos and the personal photos is striking. The former spare no effort in preserving and presenting the illusion and grandeur, while the latter are perfectly real. Consider the effort to look perfect for family photos, to look at least somewhat different and better than you would normally look.. but Liebovitz lovingly recreated what she saw, and that is so touching. I guess Ron Mueck in some ways does the same thing. Lot's of people have sculpted perfect figures, but it takes real love to do "normal." At first impulse I might have seen such realism presented in the same spirit as a Coney Island freakshow, but it struck me that it takes real love to painstakingly recreate the real. And I guess that ties into my thoughts recently on Conrad's Nostromo--my initial reaction was that it was the utmost in misanthropy, but after consideration it seemed quite the opposite.

Squeaky was a Manson girl. And haiku is 5/7/5. But thanks for playing, here's some Rice-a-Roni.

Hey now... I got 5-7-7, that should be good for the Lee Press On Nails.

Greg - 2007-01-08 14:04:41
Oh, and I hate to be pedantic...wait, no I don't, but squeaky was big on SCUM also.

It seems that SCUM is too feminist-leaning for Squeaky. Manson family women were not exactly the Power Puff Girls.

Greg - 2007-01-08 16:44:03
Yeah, I was wrong on that one. Valerie Solanas was associated with another kookoo who spoke of shooting Ford. Anyway, the Power Puff Girls = Hillary Clinton, Maxine Waters & Nancy Pelosi. George Bush is the arch-nemesis Mojo. I think it would work for the live action feature.

I thought of you in Dubai as there was an American restaurant there called Johnny Carino's. Any relation?

Paula - 2007-01-09 08:00:00
Ha, weird--I believe that is a small chain and there is one in LA and somewhere else. But, no. No relation.

I just looked at the menu and now I'm hungry for pasta. Damn, food in America has gotten expensive since the last time I was there.
