Fitting that Pitchfork has two associations--one satanic, and the other practical use for hurling manure about the barn. Agreed on the folkies... it's just not enough touch on a sound or a mood. Write a song, tell a story, show us you mean it... do some damn thing but don't just get up there and drone. SAY SOMETHING. Other than that... it took me until only recently to Come into the knowledge of Thalia Zedek, more than a decade too late. Fast Piss Blues is as good a song as was written in the 90s.

Oh, yeah Thalia rocks! Actually, I discovered her because,a long time ago, in a photo in Option with the band Uzi, she was wearing a shirt that I also had. So I just knew...And then she (well, Come) had that album 11:11, which is one of my two clock-related OCD things. So it's like we're soul sistahs.

Clock things: if I look at a clock and it's 11:11, that is good luck and I feel a surge of happy adrenalin. If I look at a clock and it's 10:30, it is baaaad luck and I get a surge of fear adrenalin, and I think, "OK, this is the end, goodbye..."

That post totally rocked. I've been waiting for you to just open up like that and unload with both barrels! I am the choir, by definition, but you keep preaching your fire and brimstone. And I'll tell ya something else (yes I will!) -- you can extrapolate from folk singers and apply your points just as incisively to a lot of things that aren't quite right in this world. Not that I have anything against any "folk" or any particular style of music, of course, but I think this is exactly what Dave Lowery was getting at when he sang, "What the world needs now is another folk singer like I need a hole in my head!!"

My first real moment of OCD wonder was 7/7/77. I was young but I remember the day so well, happily filling in the date line. That was a good day.

Chris: 7/7/77 was the inspirational date behind the seminal roots reggae album Two Sevens Clash, by Culture. That is reason enough for that to be a sacred date in my book. Paula: 11/11 is the sacred date of this corduroy foundation we found at work one day.. chosen as the sacred date because it's the date that most resembles corduroy.

And so 11/11 becomes the holy day for the grand order of corduroy

Interestingly, I read that 7/7/7 is going to be the most popular day for weddings in years... anyone want to get married? I think I'm available on that day...

I would argue strongly with the notion that Ola Podrida has no talent, hooks, etc. And I'm confused...you left the show because their fans liked them?
