Yeah, I think I need to skip 93...
I think that's why I'm always a sideman, I don't really wanna just hear myself talk, look in the mirror, other metaphors that I will not mention... the experience of the other may be the key element in art.

and if you like fat suits, you might likethisoh, well, make that might have liked, it's closed...

I know what you mean about 'The Puffy Chair' being inherently somewhat uninteresting because it's about "people like us", but i nonetheless highly recommend it as a modern example of the romantic comedy form; one that doesn't just try to ape the great ones of a bygone age, such as this; and while there seem to be dozens of these poorly conceived exercises being green-lit of late, no more heinous example exists than this film. At any rate, give 'The Puffy Chair' another chance (or a first one, for you other readers out there). Besides being a modern take on the genre, it's that rarest of the breed -- a romantic comedy taken from the male perspective ('High Fidelity' also qualifies on that front, I suppose).

Grigorss, I will definitely give it another chance--that's the beauty of Netflix, you can afford to be a little fickle, send things back, re-order things...

Wombat: that looks hilarious, I hope it gets revived!!

I'm a vain bastard. I really enjoy movies about me but I've yet to find one. Since I'm divorced, have 2 sons and live in Da Slippery Slope, people insist I should see Squid & The Whale--despite my vanity I think I'd rather find my own story... I was thinking maybe The Wild Bunch, or Death of a Gunfighter. I've always wanted to be a cowboy.

Keeping in mind that the film was released before the 2006 election season, Matthew Zoller Seitz had the best article i'd read about United 93: http://www.nypress.com/19/17/news&columns/MattZollerSeitz.cfm I'm curious to hear to what degree your seeming unease with the movie parallels with his assessment of it.

Hmm...Diaryland ate my comment...I'll try again, apologies if this shows up twice, later.

The heart of that review seems to be this paragraph:

"...Anyone who denies its power is lying. But anyone who justifies that power on aesthetic grounds is perpetrating a greater lie. ..."

I agree with the first sentence. The second is off-base in that I'm not so sure this is meant to be art as much as docu-drama.

...people insist I should see Squid & The Whale...

I'm not sure if the flick is *really* about you, but I do insist you see it because it is very, very good. Jeff Daniels is tremendous.

S&W is more about your sons, Greg. Same ages, even, I think. But the father and mother are not like you and your ex-wife at all.

I suppose I should break down and go see ET even though I'm pretty sure that's not about me. I'll probably see S&W eventually but I've never felt pressed.

Greg! I also have never seen ET!

BP, Greg, me neither.

I'm not sure what it is, but over the last few years, that fat red font that that Norbit movie uses has become The Official Font of Painfully Stupid Movies. Anyone else noticed this? (Meanwhile, while she's not looking, Paula is tagged.)

Paula - 2007-01-24 11:56:19
Hey, I've never seen ET, either! I feel a video gathering coming on.

Greg - 2007-01-24 12:03:19
After all this time without seeing ET its sort of like getting a tattoo--I made it this far, so why bother?
