Pasta Fazool! My Dad (whose lineage should now be all too clear...) owned a slew of Pat Cooper records when I was a kid -- unfortunately, on occasion he would even play them. I suppose, as an innocent and indiscriminating lad, they caused me to giggle at the time; but really, I can say no more! The shame of exposing my father's abuse is too great...

My most recent memory of Pat Cooper, who is totally NOT FUNNY, is coupled with the doubly horrible Howard Stern, whose show Pat practically lived on in the 80s. I had a roommate that loved Stern. Moreso though, Pat Cooper brings back memories of those awful Friars Club Roasts that my step-dad lived for--television sideshows of misogyny, racism, tackiness etc. Those were the few nights when Mom would conveniently find something else to do--she never said a word, but in retrospect it seems one of her bolder rebellions against really bad taste.

Sometimes watching Pat Cooper I am so amazed at his total NOT FUNNY - ness and his determination to not only continue on but to ramp up the unfunniness even more, that I have to laugh.

Sometimes.

Granted, he's from a different era, and I'm sure he speaks someone's truth, it's just not mine.
