Good Lord! 'Journey-O Styxwagon' are still around! and making albums! There's hope for all of us (but probably less of it if we go so far as to actually listen to their latest album)!
I think everything I've seen by Mike White plays better on the small screen than on the big one; I can't quite give you a rational reason for that, but it certainly seems to be the case with Freaks & Geeks and with this film as well. Go figure...

Before the smash hit album... was that Hi Infidelity? Something like that... anyway... REO Speedwagon had a 2 record live album (it was the 70s so everybody else did too). They really weren't all that bad at all and their guitar player kicked ass. Despite the egregious violations of my very super cool punk rock no guitar solo longer than 12 bars rule, he was pretty impressive, if not Outlaws/Skynrd/Molly Hatchett 70s guitar solo impressive.

Freaks & Geeks was some of the best writing I've ever seen on TV. And they captured the REO Speedwagon Teen Generation really accurately.

Back around 1977 or so, me and a couple of my friends ran backstage after an REO Speedwagon gig at the Palladium. We got to hang out with the band, we got there autographs, and we actually hung out in a room that had all there guitars on music stands, ala Spinal Tap.
We stayed there about a half and hour, even drank there beer, before they tossed us out!

Dern, you rocker women are so butch... "uncomfortably slow"?? (On another note, did you see the recent National Geographic where a young female leopard in the wild is filmed killing a baboon that turns out to have a baby on it, and then putting the baby baboon in a tree when it cries, and snuggling up overnight in the tree with it trying to keep it warm, and then, when it dies anyway, going and eating the mother?)

I don't like this font; it made Dern look like Dem. In further tragic animal news, though, our TV news last week showed the footage you posted of the hand holding otters and claimed it was really just a survival mechanism for rough seas (which I'm not buying). (I really did feel kind of let down by Google, though, because the only hint that sea otters might have a tail that looked more like a beaver's than a river otter's came up in a reference to GIANT sea otters, with their 'somewhat Beaver like Tail'.)

Hot Tuna wasn't on that bill. I don't recall who was. A foggy haze as they say! Dogstar was Keanu's band. I opened for that band back in the day. Audience was 95 percent women! I kid you not!
