well when I first stated doing audio, there were these things they were English and expensive and almost snobby, and they sounded really good, you don't really need them anymore, but if I was really rich I would probably buy one mostly to look at it.

Romantic Passion? There's a few, but most notable is my main bass. You would have to kill me in order to steal it. I wish it wasn't so. Oh, and I am in love with my lemon tree, which now has 3 lemons growing on it.

You know, I was just thinking about mentioning trees, flowering, aromatic trees. Walking around the neighborhood, I like looking at women, but looking at the trees, the flowering trees, feels very similar.

I think like the average American I've got a bit of a consumerist addiction, but nothing I can think of that approaches fetishism. I had a pair of Tannoy speakers once that I was very fond of, and never entered the room without looking at them with some fondness. I guess I enjoyed them as much as I've ever enjoyed an object.

About that tree: "Mister don't come near me."

I'm a technophile and could wax lyrical about my cell phone laptop and iPod... but here are the things I really adore: my flute; my piano; the watch my parents gave me when I graduated; the ring I got from my grandmother when she died; and this really cool pair of white wedge shoes that make me six feet tall when I wear them.

Tannoy speakers--unrelated to the topic but I've never understood the Clash line "Dad got pissed/So I got clocked/Couldn't hear the Tannoy/ so he lost the lot."

Wha--?

That's an interesting lyric... Got pissed means he got drunk. Got clocked means he had his clock cleaned, or Dad went upside his head. Tannoy is a brand name, but much like Hoover also became an improper noun. The "Tannoy" means the P.A. I can't remember the context of that line though. Re: Tannoy studio monitors--they've used a weird dual concentric driver with a brass horn tweeter/midrange for about 50 years. They've got a very distinctive sound and really not all that accurate but I've met a lot of engineers that love them. Scottish techies... can't be beat.

I have more than a few "object fetishes" -- but chief amongst them are robots/mechanical men; I've been fascinated by them almost from birth (according to my parents and brothers) and they continue to exert a certain influence over me -- but this object (and the movie and book from which it hails) has completely obsessed me from the first moment I laid eyes on them; to the extent that I have several models and dozens of pix of it. I guess the common quality is that they are both organic forms that are represented in metal; I don't even want to start to dig into the psychology of it, however (although Roland Barthes has written an insightful essay on the matter in his book, "Mythologies")

Is that the Nautilus from 20,000 leagues? I think this is the first time I've seen it. It looks like a sucker fish I had for about 15 years (R.I.P. Kareem).

Yes it is, Greg. -- Or as I like to call it, "the most beautiful thing in the world"...
