Even Fincher's misfires are worth catching (Panic Room comes to mind on that front); and if all the other good reviews I read for Zodiac weren't enough, yours certainly is: I already had it in the queue, but moved it closer to the top as a result.

whose only flaw is an unfortunate set of too-large nostrils)

Oh yes, couldn't agree more -- sometimes a failing like that can ruin an otherwise good performance -- it's good to know that Gosling had the chops to overcome it and deliver the goods...

Fans of normal-sized nostrils will be gladdened to hear that RG didn't flare too much this time around, as he has done in the past.

And Anthony Hopkins--Sir Anthony!--who I used to consider talented...

He may have been off his game in Fracture, but did you see him in this movie? He's still got it.

Tom--haven't seen it, but that is good news!

The new little monkey has the same name as my dad, but I don't think we're related... not placing any bets though.

Paula- I haven't seen Zodiac yet, but I will eventually...not because I expect it to be that great, but I will watch any crap as long as Robert Downey Jr.'s in it. Most of the films he's been in have been diappointing, but the camera really seems to capture his firey subversive spirit. I thought one of his most memorable performances was a monologue on Saturday night Live (when he came back as a guest host) about loving drugs . It was tongue and cheek, but it was so deeply done, it was obvious he hadn't hit his bottom yet.Restoration is a flawed film, but makes good use of his talents.

as long as Robert Downey Jr.'s in it.

RDJ gives a typically colorful performance in Zodiac. You'll enjoy his ascots.

Nice ascot. Thank you. Just wait until you see my new dickie!!!

Actually, the best Robert Downey performance I've seen recently is his animated turn in A Scanner Darkly. Animation captures his jitteriness even better than he himself does.

I am a huge fan of "little Robert Downey Juniors", as the "Men on Film" called him on the TV show In Living Color. I agree about his performance in A Scanner Darkly. He was also good in Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang. He made me cry in Restoration, but my #1 all time favorite is True Believer. RDJ and James Woods! Woo!!!

Greg's dickie joke reminded me of Home for the Holidays, another flawed film with a great RDJr role in it. "Have you seen your father's new organ? He can't keep his hands off it!"

And another thing: has anybody heard Robert Downey Jr's music? I remember seeing his record featured on iTunes when it came out, but I dared not listen.

JonDer: I liked KKBB, too!

Robert Downey Jr's music?

Waa-? Really? I'd love to hear that.

According to Amazon, The Futurist (RDJ's 2006 album) is a "warm, low-key effort ... an earthy voice with echoes of Dave Matthews' and informed by lyrics with more than a little personal, if lyrically opaque, truth... Spare, jazzy arrangements help keep the focus on Downey's voice throughout, a brave tack that sometimes overplays his novice songwriting skills. ...His eight originals are supplemented by two covers: an expected, if overly smoky jazz trio cover of Chaplin's "Smile" and a quaintly confident cover of Yes' "Your Move" sweetened by Jon Anderson himself on backing vocals."
